Group Therapy

Why is group therapy beneficial?

Group therapy is the treatment of multiple individuals in a group setting by a clinician. Research has shown it to be effective in treating a variety of conditions, meeting numerous needs, and can be utilized for all ages. Individuals that join a therapy group will participate in treatment with other similar aged individuals that share the same concerns, experiences, and needs.

People who participate in group therapy counseling develop a sense of belonging and are able to see that they are not alone in what they are experiencing. It is a safe space where one can develop a support system while socializing and communicating with other group members.

Winter Groups

Our groups include 1-hour sessions that meet from January to March in
Hawthorne, Islandia, Westbury, and Riverhead.

Groups are run by qualified clinicians who are trained for the specific needs of the group, and are motivated to foster a safe, accepting, judgment free environment. Each group will have a minimum of 4 individuals and maximum of 10.

Social Skills

School can be a challenging time for children in regard to making and maintaining friendships. Social Skills are the skills we use to communicate and interact with each other, both verbally and non-verbally. Whether there are concerns related to establishing friendships, understanding and utilizing body language or gestures, or other topics including but not limited to conflict resolution/anger management, empathy, personal boundaries, active listening, and self-esteem; this group is a great fit for your child. We aim to equip your child with healthy ways to relate to others that promote positive interactions, all while utilizing interactive activities and conversations that keep your child engaged.

Children of Divorce and Marital Discord

Divorce can be a confusing and challenging time for children. Every child’s experience is unique, but it doesn’t have to feel lonely or uncertain. This group will help kids connect with others their age who are also going through separation or divorce in their families. Through fun activities and open conversations, we provide tools to help kids build resilience, understand what’s happening in a way they can relate to, and feel heard and supported.

Navigating Anxiety

Anxiety can be an overwhelming experience for children of all ages. Whether this occurs in response to otherwise trivial aspects of everyday life, becomes debilitating, or occurs following something life changing; we want to set them up for success. The unfortunate truth is that, as much as we want to, we cannot eliminate all stress! It will continue to arise throughout life, well into adulthood and beyond. The key to managing stress and anxiety is increasing resilience. Resilience is fostered through psychoeducation and mindfulness strategies, both of which have been shown through research to improve focus, concentration, coping skills, and recovery time following an otherwise anxiety provoking incident. Children that participate in this group connect with other similar age peers to navigate becoming a more resilient individual in order to combat anxiety.
