Occupational Therapy Month
Occupational therapy (OT) helps children who have fine motor, visual motor, or sensory needs. OT can help them become independent in the classroom and at home.
In order to address these needs, occupational therapists use everyday activities, exercises, and most importantly, PLAY! OT also helps boost self-esteem and provides a sense of accomplishment.
Because of OT, kids can:
- Develop fine motor skills to play with toys appropriately, develop handwriting skills, and typing skills.
- Improve hand-eye coordination so they can complete necessary classroom skills such as cutting, copying from the blackboard, and organizing their classwork.
- Develop self-help skills
- Learn to interact appropriately with peers and adults, maintain their attention to task, develop coping skills, and manage frustration.
Occupational therapy is an important tool in helping kids do everyday tasks like putting on shoes and socks, focusing on learning, writing, and playing with toys or other kids.
Thank you to all of our dedicated occupational therapists for helping children reach their full potential!
